WHAT'S THAT SMELL??

Coming home from work is my favorite time of the day. Daniel is waiting for me in our garage and wants to get in the driver's seat of the car and "help" Daddy park the car in the garage! And my beautiful wife also is waiting for me at the top of the stairs from our garage. Last Friday was no different except when I got to the top of the stairs to kiss my wife, I smelled something funny. Actually is was not too funny but "kind of" bad. The first words out of my mouth were, "What's that smell?" Sorry Filipinos, but the smell of shrimp paste makes me....ok, it's not my favorite. I love Filipino food but I have had a hard time adjusting to the shrimp paste thing. Here's the deal in our house - if Daniel eats it, then I will eat it as well. So far so good....for me. The above is actually pretty good because you have mango to dip into the shrimp paste but I still have to say, "What's that smell?" It's all a part of our Fil-Am Journey!

Be on the look out for "What's the Smell - Part 2"!!

this post brought smile to my face since i know a lot others here too who could not take the smell of shrimp paste :) i love it though, with green mango. magga at bago-ong, that's how we call it, and well, it is yummy. I understand however, if shrimp paste is not your favorite :)

PS....
thanks to Deb for visiting our new group site. I hope I can join her having mangga at bago-ong :)

lol. my husband and MIL hates the smell of it as well. I once cook the dried fish in our house and it stank up the whole house for days. now when I cook, i do it outside on the side grill.

i understand what you're saying it really smells like that but if you just taste it it's really yummy you just have to cover your nose, i myself cooked shrimp paste delicious enough that you'll forget your name :-) just kidding!

That's funny. My husband is very adventurous when it comes to eating Filipino dishes, and he doesn't have any problem with 'bagoong'. But of course it was not automatic, it took a lot of courage to try it the very first time, LOL. I hope sooner or later you will try bagoong too Dana, because you're missing a lot, LOL.

What's that smell? haha!

Don't you just love it? Ate Debs and I would say "We love it! It's our thing. Let it go!" haha!

Your baby grows more and more handsome each day!

LOL....I don't get to eat bagoong much so my husband has no idea what it smells like. He, on the other hand, hates the smell of 'patis' [fish sauce] and dried fish.

Looking at that picture, I am drooling right now.

It's a same-o-same-o comment from most people who smelled that popular Pinoy "mango dip" thing. It was exactly what my hubby asked first time he smelled it, ha,ha! And same when frying dried fish and cooking with fish sauce,, that's why now, I cook them outside,, gotta share the smell with the neighbor as well, lol!

To Debbie, hi! I'm just fine. Sorry, haven't got the time lately to update my blog. Been busy working in my small veggie garden and of course taking Henry to VBS and to his other summer activities... So, were doing fine kabsat and thank you for asking :)

God bless you all.

LOL, my husband could emphatize Dana. He's been there too and probably will be glad those days are over.

I hope you have a girl this time. Say hi to Debbie for me.

I'm drooling here. I haven't had that combo in a while.

my husband does not mind the smell. oh, and he eats everything with me. when I cook dried fish, dried squid and all the yummy fowl smelling Pinoy treats I just make sure the vent hood is on and the air purifiers are all turned on high.

native na Pinoy na ang asawa ko hahaha. dinengdeng nga kinakain niya.
