We blogged recently about a Fil-Am tragedy where a Filipina was swept out to sea during a marriage proposal. Remember Leafil - also known as Yang-Yang? Here is that post to refresh your memory. Recently on that post we had a comment from someone who was at the scene shortly after it happened and has more of a first hand perspective......here are their comments:
"As someone who was on location shortly after the fact, I have talked to other eyewitnesses and people who arrived shortly after Leafil, or YangYang as she was known to her family, was swept away. Everyone seems to have the same opinion that this tragedy should never have happened. Her fiance was warned about the dangers only minutes before and he chose to ignore the warnings.
As an American who has become a friend of the Alforque family, and who communicates with them daily, we have created a website to help people to remember Leafil Alforque and to provide regular updates on this story. You can go to that site by CLICKING HERE. We suggest that you send messages of encouragement to the family using one of the links on that site. We also welcome input for the site to help people better understand what this loss means to her family. Unfortunately, most Americans do not understand the close family ties of even extended families in the Philippines. We welcome any input."
My wife and I are deeply touched by this story and we encourage everyone to visit the "Remembering Leafil Alforque" website. You are able to send messages to her family - let's overwhelm them with messages of love and support! Please do so today!
